The opportunity
Why Latvia
Latvia offers a temporary residence permit through qualifying company equity (from EUR 50,000) or real estate (from EUR 250,000, in Riga, Jūrmala or the specified priority municipalities). Each route has a different investment and government fee structure. Latvia's 2026 Immigration Law reform ends new real-estate-route permits from 15 September 2026; the equity route is not affected by this change.
The source estimates 1–3 months. Collection of the residence card requires a visit for biometrics, and the permit must be registered annually. The permit is issued for a period not exceeding five years.

Who it suits
May fit. May not.
Latvia suits applicants who want a residence permit. The two lists show where it fits and where another program serves better.
May fit if you want
- Applicants who want the lowest-cost EU residence-by-investment entry point reviewed — EUR 50,000 equity plus a EUR 10,000 state fee.
- Entrepreneurs and remote workers who want EU/Schengen access with no minimum-stay condition to maintain the permit.
- Applicants who can support a qualifying company paying at least EUR 40,000 in annual taxes.
May not fit if you need
- Applicants seeking the real-estate route after 15 September 2026 — Latvia's 2026 Immigration Law reform ends new real-estate-based residence permits from that date.
- Applicants who want permanent residence quickly — the temporary permit requires annual registration, and permanent residence is a separate process.
- Applicants unable to document the company's required annual tax payment (equity route) or the property and state-fee funds (real-estate route, while available).
